Needlepoint: Teinte

Time to begin to repeat some colors on Teinte (you are only seeing a quarter of design).  I'm loving the current interest in purple and want it to have prime placement in this design.  I'm stitching in a royal purple silk with one of Kreinik's Holographic metallics in purple.  These kind of look like wings, don't they?

Blue foundation is complete.  Now to add some more glitz to it.  Just began so here's a preview (look close - its on the bottom left blue):

Needlepoint: Teinte... or should I call it the Frog??

Frogging
verb: 1.  to take out stitches 2. rip it! rip it!
adjective: 1. description of taking out stitch

Teinte is being a real challenge.  Just about every time I think I have the right stitch, on the right slant... I decide it's wrong.

Below is a picture of where I was when I last wrote about Teinte:

The green "fingers" and yellow "wings" were in.  I had stitched but not written about the blue section.  At the time I had mixed feeling about it.  After giving it a little holiday and then returning to it, I decided it just had to come out.  Or, ahem, had to be 'frogged".  The reason it bothered me is that the three colors of blue was just too busy for the small space and didn't have enough "pop".  Here's a close up:

I decided to put in a black background behind the dark green and then basket weave in a medium to dark denim blue. Can't remember where but once upon a time an instructor said or author wrote that  basketweave will give your eyes a space to rest and help bring forward the other areas.  That's not exactly my intent for this crescent area but I think it will be visually effective.

To solve the problem of making the black work with the point, I have not curved the line of the black all the way to the green tip but rather worked a line across.  The blue will either have blackwork or over-stitching on top. To be continued.  Stay tuned, pictures are around the bend.

Needlepoint Work in Progress: Teinte

Another week and progress is slow... but there is progress.  When I last posted on this project, the picture below was where I was, just having added the yellow (don't they look like wings? ):
I forgot my camera manners and failed snap a proper picture of the green:
This is a better image of the green area and you can see where I'm adding in some blue:
I'm not sure I really like the stitch I used with the medium and darker blues so that may change in the next week.  The lighter blue stitch seems to do well.  The final plan for the design is slated to use the lightest blue in the very center of the piece (in these pictures it will be in the top left corner) - that will be the last area I stitch so stay tuned.

She certainly is getting very colorful.

This work has been named, I think... Tiente is French for color so I believe that will be her name.  Of course, you are only seeing a quarter of the design so you will have to trust me that she is has lots of "pop".

Also, I have added a scrolling picture roll on the LilyStitch blog page that shows the progression from most recent to oldest.  Enjoy!

Some Dish: Needlepoint Work In Progress

My apologies for a late post!  Sometimes I think it's wiser to stop and consider before acting (for someone who likes to run before walking, that's really hard!).  You see, I'm in the middle of applying for enrollment in a national needlework educational program.  I've debated back and forth weather or not it's smart to share the journey but I've decided that it's time to dish.

Part of the application is to submit a finished design. I'm on a very short timeline so there is little room for much else...  due to my calendar I have to have it done before the end of December with submission in February.

If you remember to my post a week or so ago (link) I was debating about color.  After receiving some really great encouragement by you wonderful readers, I've decided to just let the vibrant colors come out in this project.  I should also note, that I will submit two other color ways so I expect those to be much more dub-dued.

Below is a photo journal of  the progress.  (I will be sharing a quarter of the work).
