LilyCompass I: Color and Design Inspiration

Lately, I just simply can't get enough color.  Not sure why.  This time of year I'm completely inundated by the sights and sounds of summer.  The flowers in my garden are blooming.  Mimosa Trees are in their full glory.  Tree Frogs and Crickets are chirping.  The birds are out in full glory including: Bluebirds, Yellow Finches, Cardinals, Chickadees, Nuthatches, etc.

When the time came to pick a theme and color-way for LilyCompass I, out came books from some of the great Quilt designers of our time such as Judi Mathieson and Paula Nadelstern.  Both of these artists create works that I like to describe as a visual dance full of vibrant jewels.  From that little statement comes my theme for LilyCompass I: "JEWELS"

For color, Jewel will be bedecked with Amethyst, Sapphire, Emerald, and Rubies.  Her settings will be fashioned from gold threads, of course!

As with Uguisu Reflects on Ume, I am challenging myself to explore stitches that I have not yet worked.  In Jewel, I will work four new-to-me Novel effects for each of the primary colors plus one new holding stitch for the secondary colors.  My intention is to fill one half of each spike with silk embroidery.  The accent (or other half) will be worked in Goldwork on the large spikes.  The small spikes accents will be done in a combined silk and gold twisted technique.

Please tell me, do you love it?  Hate it?  More importantly - does LilyCompass I: "Jewel" inspire you?
